Things kicked off on Tue with a long hill run. About 8mi worth, 10x peak-to-peak repeats. My legs actually felt ok, but one hill was much steeper than the other - brutal! About 150ft of climbing in 1/4mi!!! Ouch! Lol.
Wed was another early morning - hit the pool when it opened at 5:40am and had a 3000m continuous Z3 swim. By no means fast, but the Z3 effort was there and got through it with no stops! Then, off for a 40mi brick ride in Z3. Very rough ride. My legs had nothing in them after the 1st hour, and it was all I could do to just finish the ride. Very discouraging, but Coach Aaron's "Eye on the prize" reminder helped me refocus a bit and move on.
I wasn't looking forward to Thu's 60mi hill ride on Thu after bonking on Wed. I managed to get out the door by 6am and planned a route that I could vary based on how my legs were feeling (escape route haha). It was a dreary morning and I thought I might get rained out, but over the hours, the change into a sunny day was pretty amazing to watch. It ended up being a beautiful morning to ride! My legs were still exhausted, but I managed to survive the entire mileage. My legs felt similar to the way they usually do after 100mi - WTF!? Ugh. How did I ride/run so well last week? "Taper is coming, eye on the prize!"
On Sun, Justin and I got up early to get in 60mi together. I actually had a pretty good ride - we haven't ridden together in a while, and I really missed that - the miles went by fast. Riding is so much better with great company! Then, we started off our brick run together. I was supposed to run "12-14mi"...HA! This was the run that broke me. We ran the 1st 2.5mi together since Justin had 5mi, and I kept going, hoping to get in 8-10mi. It was hot, my legs were completely shot - I felt like I was disintegrating mentally as each mile went by. It was miserable to say the least. It was all I could do not to burst into tears when I got home. I don't really know why this was the run that broke me. 116mi ride? 20mi run? Nope - an 8mi brick run did me in. I think it's because my body is craving taper and because I've had 4 weeks of 15hrs+ training weeks. My body is begging me for taper and I'm going to listen! :)
What a week! Mentally ready for taper! 13 days to go! 1 exam to day, 2 tomorrow! Whew!
Hardest workout this week: Sun's 60mi/9mi bike/run brick
Milestone this week: submitting my application for Collin College Nursing School! :)
